12 year-old Sara argues the Oscar-winning animation is a must-see film
KPop Demon Hunters tells the story of three young demon huntresses – Rumi, Mira and Zoey. The girls have a band called Huntr/x (pronounced “Huntrix”) which is very successful, and perform in multiple concerts. Their enemy is Gwi-Ma, the king of demons. Demons eat people’s souls and send them to the king.
The girls enjoyed their success, which meant almost achieving a golden Honmoon — that is a shield created by the first huntresses with their songs to protect the human world from the demons. Generation after generation, huntresses kept the barrier intact, and once the shield would become golden, no demon would be able to pass through the Honmoon.
The king of demons sees that the Honmoon is turning golden and he gets very angry. Jinu, who is one of the demons, offers to help Gwi-Ma to break the barrier, and in exchange the demon king promises to erase Jinu’s bad memories. Jinu’s plan is to create a demon boysband called Saja Boys – and the demon king agrees to support this plan.

Ooops - please try again.
Meanwhile, Huntr/x releases their new single – Golden – which is a great success and in result the Honmoon turns more, well, golden. And in the real world, the song won a Grammy and an Oscar for the best original song of 2025.
The film tells the story of the battle between the hunters and the demons, in which music is a weapon. There is some not too serious violence in the film, and Netflix promoted it for young audiences. A mix of a musical, coming-of-age comedy and fantasy got great reviews and massive audiences (it even surpassed Zootopia 2 in box offices) before winning almost all important awards possible for an animated film, including an Oscar for Best Animation.
To no surprise, Netflix has already confirmed that there will be a sequel.
The lesson I drew from this film is that I should not be afraid of who I am, and that only by being truthful when facing difficulties will allow my friends and family to support me, while hiding my true identity and trying to solve all problems on my own is also a form of being disloyal.
The song at the end of the film, What It Sounds Like, reminds me that there is no point in hiding the truth, as it will reveal itself sooner than later.
